Pushing a donkey up a hill
Just after we moved into our house, the land next door belonged to someone else who wanted to sell to our neighbours. To move negotiations along he borrowed a donkey. A rather loud voiced donkey. One day he took down the fence between his land and our neighbours land. That same night the donkey found its way into our garden. At two in the morning we heard the sound of hoof-steps? Peering out of the bedroom window we could see the donkey, followed by two Guardia Civil police officers, followed by Angel, our neighbour. The Guardia managed to catch the poor animal and then tried to push it back up the bank to its own area. How they thought this stubborn animal would go anywhere by force, never mind up a steep, loose bank, I don´t know. But suffice to say it wouldn´t go. We scurried back to bed and left them to it. The next morning our neighbours came to ask whether we heard anything and to tell us the story. We did let on to them that we had seen everything but had kept ourselves away from the action.
